Nude Beach || Tahoe, CA
Dax loves beaches and being naked, so he’s taken me on a nude beach scavenger hunt over the years. Everywhere we travel we look up if there’s a nearby nude beach and try to fit it into our schedule. We’ve been to several great nude beaches, but personally, I think my favorite is Lake Tahoe, CA.
I’ve been told by multiple people that winter is the “pretty season” in Tahoe and there’s no point in going in the summer…I strongly disagree. If you love winter sports, well yeah that makes sense. But Tahoe is gorgeous in the summer. The air is warm but the water is crisp and perfectly clear, the sky creates majestic paintings of endless cloud formations, and the sunsets are soothingly colorful.
The reason I love Tahoe is because I’m not a fan of fine sand and the beaches in Tahoe are pebbly. The nude beach Secret Cove is very easy to get to. Just plug it into GPS, park along the road nearby, and it’s a fairly easy ~15 minute walk on a forest path straight there. The shore itself is pretty small, and gets even shallower when the tide comes in, however, the store isn’t even the destination.
Once you’re there and disrobe, there’s an endless obstacle course of huge rocks surrounding the beach. Both times that we’ve been we love climbing and skipping across the rocks for some fun playfulness and exercise. We then take breaks to lay in the sun; hot rocks on our naked bodies and warm sunbeams on our skin. The water is cold, but it’s a refreshing brisk cold that feels amazing once you’re all the way in. We love getting hot and sweaty and then jumping into the water and wading around to cool off. The water is so clear and beautiful that you can see through it. We brought a waterproof camera and got beautiful underwater pictures of us swimming (well, Dax is swimming, I’m flailing around trying to look mermaid-esque). This beach is also an amazing location for nude photos on the rocks. There aren’t a lot of people walking around, so you can get some great nude wide shots with the landscape and beautiful never-ending sky. *Note: respect other people’s privacy and never take photos of other nude people without their knowledge and consent
The beach is on the east side of the lake, so if this is your sole destination I would suggest getting an accommodation somewhere in the southeast area. The entire lake only takes about an hour to drive around (which, I highly recommend; it’s beautiful), so you really can stay anywhere and still enjoy a day at Secret Cove. The east side of the lake is Nevada, and the west side is California, so there are casino hotels along the southeast if gambling is another interest of yours. On our second visit we stayed in this area, it has a lot of restaurants but is definitely more touristy. Our first visit we stayed at an AirBnB with a private hot tub in the forest, which we definitely took advantage of.
Getting to Lake Tahoe is fairly easy but they don’t have a commercial airport. In the summer, it’s about a 4-5 hour drive from either SFO or SJC airports, or an hour drive from Reno. I’ve never driven there in the winter and it snows a lot, so please be safe and look up conditions and any winter driving safety suggestions.
